About Shirley Psychological Services
Who We Are
You're not alone in this.

Shirley Psychological Services is a Calgary-based group of registered psychologists offering compassionate, evidence-based therapy for children and teens, adults, and families throughout Alberta. We provide both in-person sessions at our southeast Calgary office and virtual sessions for all Albertans.

Our team brings together over 65 years of combined clinical experience across diverse settings, from residential programs and crisis services to community mental health and private practice. What sets us apart isn't just our expertise; it's that many of us have walked similar paths as parents, partners, and people navigating life's messy transitions. We bring both professional training and lived experience to our work.

Three therapists,
one philosophy.
Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

At Shirley Psychological Services, we are committed to providing a respectful, inclusive, and affirming space for all clients.

We recognize that racism, discrimination, colonization, systemic barriers, and historical trauma can have a significant impact on mental health, identity, relationships, family systems, and overall well-being. We also recognize that Indigenous communities, Black communities, LGBTQ+ communities, newcomers, people with disabilities, and other marginalized groups continue to experience barriers to safety, belonging, and equitable care.

As mental health professionals, we approach this work with cultural humility, openness, and a commitment to ongoing learning. Our goal is to provide care that respects each person’s dignity, identity, lived experience, and cultural context.

We strive to create a therapeutic environment where clients feel seen, heard, and supported. This includes being mindful of power, privilege, bias, and the ways broader social realities can shape emotional health and access to care.

Our commitment is to keep learning, listening, and improving so that Shirley Psychological Services remains a welcoming and responsive space for the diverse communities we serve.
ABOUT OUR DIRECTOR
Derrick Shirley, MSc.
As Director, Derrick Shirley has shaped the clinic around experienced therapists with clear areas of focus, and specialized services that help clients better identify what they need. This includes men’s mental health, women’s mental health, child and adolescent therapy, parenting support, ADHD assessment and treatment, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, Separation and Divorce counselling, and clinical supervision.

Derrick has been intentional about choosing therapists who bring depth, warmth, personality, and strong clinical judgment to their work. Every therapist at SPS has at least 20 years of clinical experience, allowing clients to work with professionals who have supported people through a wide range of emotional, relational, family, and life challenges.

The goal is to make therapy feel more approachable, more focused, and more connected to real-life concerns — so clients can find care that feels supportive, meaningful, and relevant to what they are actually carrying.
