Accelerated Resolution  Therapy

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a unique approach to psychotherapy. ART is unique because the ART Therapist guides the client to replace the negative images in the mind that cause the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress with positive images of the client’s choosing. And this is done quickly, most often within one session! Once the negative images have been replaced by positive ones, the triggers will be gone. Nightmares and repeated intrusive thoughts will stop.

What is Accelerated Resolution Therapy?

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach designed to help individuals process and resolve distressing experiences efficiently and effectively. ART works by helping the brain replace distressing images and sensations associated with difficult memories with more adaptive, neutral, or positive images chosen by the client.

This process often leads to a reduction or elimination of emotional and physical symptoms linked to past experiences, including intrusive thoughts, nightmares, and emotional triggers. Many clients experience meaningful relief in a relatively short period of time, sometimes within one session, although individual experiences vary.

Our approach

HOW IT WORKS

ART uses guided eye movements to support the brain’s natural ability to process and integrate experiences. These eye movements are combined with well-established therapeutic approaches, including elements of psychodynamic therapy, Gestalt therapy, and guided imagery.

The eye movements used in ART are calming and have been shown to stimulate theta brain waves, which are associated with relaxation, creativity, intuition, and meditative states. Within the ART protocol, these eye movements help the brain reorganize how distressing memories are stored, allowing emotional and physiological responses to shift without requiring prolonged discussion of traumatic details.

Importantly, clients are not required to verbally describe or relive traumatic experiences in detail. The therapist acts as a guide, while the client remains in control of the process and chooses how images are transformed. This can make ART a gentler and more tolerable approach for many individuals.
